Senior Civil/Water Resources Engineer (Tampa)  

This position is for a professional who can lead by example, execute water resources, stormwater management, and natural stream restoration projects, with vision to expand our growing civil and water resources engineering group. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting complex hydrologic and hydraulic studies and analyses;
  • Developing conceptual models and water budget analyses;
  • Developing, calibrating, and reviewing hydrologic/hydraulic models;
  • Preparing and reviewing comprehensive technical reports,
  • Preparing and overseeing construction plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, and permit applications;
  • Managing projects, clients, and subconsultants, and mentoring staff;
  • Preparing and presenting proposals, statements of qualifications and marketing plans; and
  • Presenting and actively participating in relevant professional organizations.



  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering
  • Registered professional engineer licensed in the State of Florida
  • 15+ years relevant experience in water resources studies; civil, drainage, natural systems, and utilities engineering design; and comprehensive knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic concepts.
  • Extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and permitting requirements
  • Knowledge of construction materials and methods, and construction management experience
  • 5+ years project management experience
  • Computer skills: HEC models, ICPR, SWMM, GIS, CAD, Microsoft Office suite, statistics software
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and leadership skills, attention to detail, self-motivated

 Mid-Level Remediation Engineer (Tampa) (Orlando)

HSW Engineering seeks an experienced Remediation Engineer for our Tampa office, who is knowledgeable in strategic planning, feasibility study, and environmental remediation experience under various regulatory programs (RCRA, CERCLA, petroleum, RBCA, and dry cleaning) and possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will report to a senior engineer and will be expected to work largely independently, while following HSW’s quality and risk management policies. This is a mid-level level position with significant growth and career advancement opportunity.


  • Serve as a Project Manager in support of project implementation (scope, schedule, budget management) and remedy evaluation, selection, design, permitting, implementation, and reporting.
  • Performs remediation design using various soil and groundwater remediation technologies/strategies to clean up contaminated sites in accordance with the applicable regulatory criteria.
  • Duties may include field investigation activities, developing and coordinating field pilot tests to evaluate different soil and groundwater remedial alternatives, remedial option cost estimating, management and disposal of wastes (including hazardous waste) in accordance with the applicable federal, state, and local regulations, developing contract and bid documents for selected remediation alternatives.
  • Helps to expand our reputation via publishing, presentations, and visibility at prominent industry conferences.



  • The minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree; engineering (chemical, environmental, civil, or similar). MS degree is preferred.
  • Professional Registrations/Certifications required.
  • Excellent professional skills, with specific emphasis in design, installation, and optimization of soil and groundwater remediation systems.
  • At least five (5) years of directly relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated verbal and technical writing skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex document composition.


 Senior Water Resources Specialist Scientist/Engineer (Tampa)  

Applicants specializing in hydrology and hydraulic studies, surface water and groundwater hydrology, and with interest in ecohydrology will be considered. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing water resources assessments (e.g., water supply plans, watershed management plans, environmental flows (Minimum Flows and Levels (MFLs)), Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs);
  • Analyzing and interpreting water and environmental resources data;
  • Developing and reviewing models (e.g., hydrologic, hydraulic, hydrodynamic, physical habitat, etc.);
  • Preparing and reviewing scientific reports and participating in relevant professional organizations;
  • Managing projects and clients and mentoring staff;
  • Preparing and presenting proposals and marketing plans; and
  • Presenting and actively participating in relevant professional organizations.



  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Civil/Water Resources Engineering, Geology (Hydrogeology), or similar hydroscience
  • Registered professional engineer, geologist, or hydrologist
  • 10+ years of experience; specialized academic training can substitute for years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in hydrology and hydraulics of rivers, aquifers, lakes, and estuaries
  • Understanding of the relationship between hydrology and ecosystem structure and function
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and permitting requirements
  • Working knowledge of applicable discipline and office software: HEC software, H&H models (SWMM, ICPR, etc.), and statistics
  • Experience in ecohydrology and statistical and other data management software (R, SPSS, Excel, etc.) to perform exploratory data analysis and regression analysis is preferred
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and leadership skills, attention to detail, self-motivated
  • Demonstrated report writing skills
