Urban Assault Course

Urban Assault Course (UAC), Fort Bliss, Texas

HSW Engineering provided full discipline A/E services for the design of an Urban Assault Course (UAC) located in the Oro Grande range area of Fort Bliss. The urban assault course is required to provide performance oriented training to soldiers for operational aspects, and planning in an urban environment. Urbanization discipline impacts on military operations in all types of conflict. Leaders must understand how that affects their unit's capabilities as well as their ability to provide support. The urban assault course is used to conduct mandated mission initial training. This training course and range allows for both individual and collective hands-on training enhancing doctrinal understanding and skill development. This UAC project provides enhanced individual and hands-on urban training of all constituent elements featured in Force XXI war fighting operations to the soldiers of active Army Units, Reserve and National Guard units that train at Fort Bliss. This range is used to train soldiers on the skills necessary to detect, identify, engage and defeat stationary targets in an urban setting.

Primary Facilities are located within the perimeter of the range complex and include Operations/Storage Building, stationary infantry targets (SIT), service roads, site improvements and associated range power and data transfer cabling. The standard five training stations will be provided including Station 1 Individual and Team Technique, Station 2 Squad and Platoon Techniques, Station 3 Grenadier Gunnery and it's Façade, Station 4 Urban Assault Defend House, and Station 5 Underground Trainer. Station 1 is also provided with an adjacent 'ghost' outline of the rooms within the building for pre-training familiarization. The Operations/Storage Building is co-located with ROCA facilities provided for a nearby Shoot House. Supporting design included electric service, paving, walks, curbs and gutters, information systems, Air Conditioning. Services included aerial surveying and ground surveying, geotechnical support, and UXO support for the field investigations.
