Groundwater Modeling for Proposed Sand Mine Water Use Permit, St. Lucie County, Florida
Groundwater flow and water table drawdown modeling was performed using MODFLOW implemented with GMS to evaluate the influence of a phased sand mining operation on the water table. The proposed mining site is adjacent to the C-25 Canal in north-central St. Lucie County. Modeling results were used to evaluate alternative infiltration trench designs to minimize drawdown in nearby environmentally sensitive areas and comply with the SFWMD Basis of Review for water use permit applications. The robustness of the design was tested by performing model sensitivity analyses.
